Consumer Confidence Falls as Sentiment Index Plunges by 13.5% in August

(University of Michigan) US Consumer Sentiment Index tanked 13.5% in the first half of August from July as confidence over a return to normalcy after the Covid-19 pandemic waned. 

On a year over year basis, consumer sentiment was down 5.3%.

The Current Economic Conditions index also shed 7.8% in August from July, with a year over year change down 6.0%.

The Index for Consumer Expectations waned the most at 17.5% in August from July and was down 4.8% year over year.

The plunge in consumer sentiment followed diminished hopes of the end of the pandemic amid the fresh outbreak of the Delta Covid variant. 

DJI is up +0.083%, DXY is down -0.44%.
