Consumer Confidence Index Extends 4-Month Gains to Hit 127.3 in June

(The Conference Board) US consumers have raised optimism about the labor market and business conditions, as the confidence index reached 127.2 in June, from May’s 120.0. The consumer confidence is now at its highest since the start of the pandemic.

The Present Situation Index, based on current business and labor conditions, ticked higher to 157.7 in June, up from 148.7 in May.

The Expectations Index, assessing short-term outlook for business, income, and labor market conditions rose from 100.9 in May to 107.0 in June.

The improvement in consumer confidence suggests further economic rebound in the second quarter

Consumers planning to purchase automobiles, homes, and major appliances, as well as those with vacation intentions also increased in line with rising outlook.
