Binance Goes After the Accounts of Relatives of Russian Officials

(Bloomberg) World’s largest crypto exchange Binance has blocked accounts of relatives of Russia government officials as calls for sanctions mount.

Binance said that the stepdaughter of Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Polina Kovaleva, and daughter of Dimitry Peskova, President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman, are among those who have been blocked.

Kirill Malofeev, the son of tycoon Konstantin Malofeev, who is accused by the US of being a source of financing for Russia, has also been banned.

The crypto exchange says it will conduct more checks to net more people with connections to the sanctioned individuals.

Binance also said it blocked Garantex, a virtual currency exchange, on March 11 after it became a target of the US.

The move by the world’s largest crypto exchange happened after, last week, saying it will limit its services in Russia.
