(Binance) Binance has tapped the former Bank of Russia director of report processing department Olga Goncharova, among other hires, as it targets operations in the region.
Co-founder of crypto platform Tokenbox Vladimir Smerkis joins the crypto exchange as its director of Binance Russia. Other local hires are Kirill Khomyakov, former BNP Paribas executive, who will serve as Binance Ukraine’s general manager.
The new local hires are part of Binance’s move to build compliance in Russia, Ukraine, and the Commonwealth of Independent States where it seeks operations.
Binance also wants to provide education, with a focus on local Binance Smart Chain growth.
Head of operations for Russia and the CIS at Binance Gleb Kostarev says the crypto exchange is putting emphasis on regulatory compliance in jurisdictions of operation in the latest moves. Kostarev expects the new executive to boost Binance’s presence in Eastern Europe.
The new move by Binance happens even as the region becomes a leading spot for crypto mining. CIS member state Kazakhstan already ranks as the second-largest mining country for Bitcoin in the world.
