Annual Inflation Jumps to 5.2% in the EU in Nov., Settles at 4.9% in the Euro Area

(Eurostat) Annual inflation was recorded at 5.2% in the European Union in November, an increase from 4.4% posted the previous month and significantly higher than 0.2% the prior year.

Annual Inflation Rates in November

In the euro area, annual inflation was 4.9%, compared to 4.1% in October and -0.3% the prior year.

The highest contributors of annual inflation in the euro area in November were energy, with a gain of 2.57 percentage points, and services, with a jump of 1.16 percentage points. 

Inflation was recorded the lowest in Malta, Portugal, and France at 2.4%, 2.6%, and 3.4%, respectively. The highest annual inflation rates were in Lithuania, Estonia, and Hungary at 9.3%, 8.6%, and 7.5%, respectively.
