About 1.85 million passengers were screened at U.S airports on Sunday, according to Yahoo! Finance. The number is the highest since March 2020, suggesting a return to air travel that was dented by the pandemic.
The number of screen passengers on Sunday is 100,000 more than 1.74 million recorded on Thursday.
Sunday’s travel demand is still 30% below the pre-pandemic level in an equivalent day of May 2019.
U.S airlines are anticipating a surge in summer travel on rising vaccinations and they are adding more flights.
United Airlines plans to increase daily flights by at least 400 in July and add service in European travel.
United will fly 80% of its U.S schedule in July relative to the same month of 2019 and will increase its domestic network by 17% in the same month.
American Airlines plans at least 150 new routes in the summer to meet its planned more than 90% of domestic seat capacity compared to 2019.
There are concerns as most U.S travelers are still restricted from Europe while the U.K mandates a 10-day quarantine and two Covid tests for all American arrivals.
