(Cointelegraph) US-based internet media Yahoo has announced it will host several virtual events and concerts for Hong Kong residents in the Decentraland.
Yahoo’s Hong Kong head of audience, Lorraine Cheung, says the company views the metaverse as an attractive venue for the city residents looking for engagements amid the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions.
The move happens after, last week, a nationwide mandate was introduced requiring individuals to show a negative Covid-19 test before entering public venues.
Yahoo will also seek to launch a non-fungible token exhibition dubbed, The Abyss of Kwun Tong. The exhibition will feature local artists virtually and will seek to recreate the historic Kwun Tong neighborhood.
Yahoo now joins the Meta platform, which also teased metaverse plans for Hong Kong. Meta is seeking to work alongside various organizations and businesses to create “first-hand” experiences in the metaverse for Hong Kong residents.
