Wholesale Inventories Rises by 1.2% in August as Sales Fall

(Census Bureau) US inventories of merchant wholesalers were $731.1 billion in August, a gain of 1.2% from July. The inventories were 12.3% higher than August 2020.

Monthly Wholesale Inventories

The sales of merchant wholesalers in August averaged $595.5 billion, a decline of 1.1% from July. The sales were 20.6% higher than the prior year.

The inventories to sales ratio in August by merchant wholesalers was 1.23, compared to 1.32 in the prior year.
