Volkswagen Faces Unrest in Move to Cut Staff to Compete With Tesla

(FT) Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess is facing resistance from the group’s powerful works council protesting against a move to reduce staff at the German plants.

Diess has been seeking to cut staff and revamp the German’s plants in a move to catch up with Tesla in future mobility solutions via electric vehicles.

Daniela Cavallo, the head of the works council, says Diess has been aiming at job cuts instead of addressing persisted supply chain issues that have plagued the carmaker’s production.

Diess has called the workers’ representatives to help make Volkswagen future-ready amid the disagreements.

Volkswagen is spending around 35 billion euros on electric vehicles and has, in the past few months launched numerous battery power models.

VOW3 is up +1.78%.
