Venezuela’s Maiquetia Airport Considers Crypto Payments

(elsiglo) Venezuela’s Simón Bolívar International Airport is working to enable the use of cryptocurrencies as payment options.

Airport director Freddy Borges has reportedly lined up Bitcoin, Dash, and the country’s oil-pegged digital currency, Petro, as the potential payment options.

Once introduced, crypto payments will demonstrate the airport’s commitment to facilitate the adoption of digital currency and move to international standards.

Borges expects the crypto payments to benefit tourists. The payment options will be introduced as per Venezuela’s National Superintendence of Crypto Assets and Related Activities.

The move by Maiquetia airport happens at a time Venezuela is testing a central bank digital currency which was launched on October 1.

BTCUSD is down -1.06%, ETHUSD is down -3.12%.
