(Reuters) U.S. airlines tripled passenger volumes to 66.4 million in June from the same period last year, but the numbers were 21% lower than the pre-pandemic levels.
The number of passengers carried by the biggest airlines increased by 9.2 million in June from 57.2 million passengers in May.
The transport department said that the domestic flights dipped by 17% while the international flights went down by 45%.
Airlines for America, a trade group, reported that the U.S. airlines’ domestic flights were less by 17% from 2019 while the international flights were down by 35%.
Southwest Airline issued a profit warning last week following flight cancellations as the effects of the Covid-19 Delta Variant bite.
The Biden Administration is yet to lift restrictions barring global travelers from entering the U.S.
