US Stock Market Takes a Pause to Observe Presidents’ Day

Traders will get an extended weekend to observe Washington’s Birthday, also known as President’s Day, celebrated on the third Monday of February. The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will resume trading hours on Tuesday after the three-day holiday. 

  • The U.S bond market, metals, and commodities market, including Nymex crude and Comex-traded gold, will be closed, though stock futures are active.
  • The Shanghai Stock Exchange is closed through Wednesday due to Lunar New Year, while the Hong Kong stock exchange is shut today for the fourth day of the holiday.
  • The end of Donald Trump’s Senate impeachment trial could allow President Joe Biden’s economic priorities and become a catalyst for market momentum.

S&P 500 YTD is 4.76%, Nasdaq YTD is 9.37%, Euro Stoxx 50 YTD is 5.05%, Nikkei 225 YTD is 9.62%.
