(Bloomberg) The U.S.’s $550 billion infrastructure bill that will see the biggest public expenditure in decades passed by the Senate now awaits clearance by the legislature.
President Joe Biden said that the success of the bill will create jobs and help in modernizing roads, highways, and bridges.
The move now puts the House speaker under pressure to fast track the bill when she had earlier maintained that she will only do so once the Senate has passed the broader economic agenda.
Senator Rob Portman and Krysten Sinema said in a joint statement that the new spending in the bill will be offset through new revenue and savings.
The bill proposes $110 billion for roads and bridges, $73 billion for power grid upgrades, $66 billion for rail and Amtrak, and $65 billion in broadband expansion.
