US Retail and Food Services Fell 1.3% in May as Recovery Takes a Bumpy Ride

(US Census Bureau) US estimates of retail and food services sales plunged by 1.3% in May from April to reach $620.2 billion.

Retail sales in May were still 28.1% higher than that of May 2020.

Total retail sales from March 2021 through May surged 36.2% compared to the same period a year ago.

Retail trade sales in May fell by 1.7% from April, but were 24.4% higher than last year.

Clothing and clothing accessories stores surged by 200.3% in May from the comparable month of 2020.

Food services and drinking places jumped by 70.6% in May from the same month a year ago.
