US Job Openings Jump to a Record 10.1 Million in June

(Department of Labor) New job openings rose to a record high of 10.1 million on the last business day of June.

Hires increased to 6.7 million while total separations rose to 5.6 million. The quit rate rose to 2.7%.

Layoffs and discharges remained unchanged at 0.9%.

Overall hires totaled 72.1 million in the last 12 months ending June, with separations totaling 65.2 million, with a net employment gain of 6.9 million.

Job openings rose in large businesses with 250-999 employees, 1,000-4,999 employees, and those with 5,000 or more employees.

Medium establishments with 50-249 employees and large businesses with 250-999 employees recorded an uptick in hire rates. Quit rates, layoffs, and discharge rates increased in large establishments with 250-999 employees.
