(BLS) Consumer prices in the US rose by 0.3% in April from the previous month, a slower gain compared to an increase of 1.2% in March.
The food index increased by 0.9% in April from March, with the food at home gauge posting a higher 1.0% gain in the month. The energy index declined after several months of gains, as gasoline saw a 6.1% drop in prices.
Less food and energy, consumer prices rose by a monthly 0.6% in April, a higher increase compared to 0.3% in March.
The consumer index has now ticked higher by 8.3% over the past twelve months, slower compared to a gain of 8.5% in March. The index, less food, and energy saw a gain of 6.2% over the past twelve months.
