(The Conference Board) The US Consumer Confidence Index hit 115.8 in December, an improvement from 111.9 in November.
Consumer’s assessment of the current situation in the labor market and business dipped slightly to an index of 144.1, from 144.4 in November.
The Expectations Index edged higher to 96.9, from November’s low of 90.2, with the improvement expected to set the stage for continued growth at the start of next year.
The improvement in consumer confidence happens even as inflation concerns eased from November’s 13-year high. Rising costs and a surge in Omicron infections are still seen as the headwinds in early 2022.
