US Average Hourly Earnings Decline by 0.1% in July as Inflation Bite

(Bureau of Labor Statistics) Real average hourly earnings for US employees fell by 0.1% from June to July.

The decline reflects a 0.4% surge in average hourly earnings, combined with a 0.5% uptick in the consumer price index.

Average weekly earnings fell by 0.1%, reflecting the fall in the average earnings in July.

Average hourly earnings plunged by 1.2% in July, compared to the same month of last year.

Production and nonsupervisory employees saw no change in average hourly earnings from June to July. The employees saw a 1.1% decline in average hourly earnings from July 2020 to July 2021.
