(Eurostat) Euro area posted an unemployment rate of 7.5% in August 2021, a decline from 7.6% in July and 8.6% in August last year. EU’s unemployment was 6.8%, a decline from 6.9% in July and 7.7% the prior year.

The number of unemployed persons fell by 224,000 in August from July in the EU. The number declined by 261,000 in the euro area.
On a year-over-year basis, unemployment was down by 1.965 million in the EU and while the euro area posted a 1.861 million decline.
The youth unemployment rate stood at 16.2% in the EU in August, down from 16.4% in July. Youth unemployment was 16.5% in the euro area, down from 16.7% in July.
Unemployment among women was 7.2% in the EU, a fall from 7.4% in July, while the unemployment rate for men was 6.5%, little changed from July. The unemployment rate for women in the euro area was 7.9%, a decline from 8.1% in July, while that of men remained stable at 7.1%.
