Unemployment Falls by 0.1% in Both the Euro Area and EU in February

(Eurostat) The rate of unemployment was 6.8% in the euro area in February 2022, from 6.9% the previous month. The rate is below 8.2% in the prior year.

EU, Euro Area Unemployment Rate

In the EU, the unemployment rate was posted at 6.2% in February, compared to 6.3% in the previous month. The rate was 7.5% in February 2021.

Youth unemployment was 14.0% in February in both the euro area and EU, falling from 14.3% in the prior month in both regions. Youth unemployment has now declined by 512,000 in the euro area from the prior year and 602,000 in the EU. 

Women’s unemployment fell to 6.5% in the EU in February from 6.6% in January. The rate held stable at 7.2% in the euro area.

Men unemployment stood at 5.9% in the EU in February, from 6.0% in January. In the euro area, the men’s unemployment was 6.4% in February, from 6.6% the prior month.
