UK’s Economy Grows at a Below Estimate 0.1% in October as Headwinds Persist

(ONS) UK gross domestic product expanded by 0.1% in October, missing expected 0.4% growth with headwinds in construction and industrial production. GDP had grown by 0.6% in September.

UK GDP is estimated to have grown by 0.1% in October 2021, but remains 0.5% below its pre-pandemic level (February 2020)

Industrial output fell by 0.6% in October, with declines in electricity, gas, mining, and quarrying. Construction was down by 1.8%.

Services output expanded by 0.4%, with human health activities growing the most at 3.5%. The output reached its pre-pandemic level.

Consumer-facing services output was up 0.3% in October, driven by 8.1% jump in wholesale and retail trade. The output is now 5.2% below the pre-pandemic level.

In the three months to October, UK GDP grew by 0.9%. The economy is now 0.5% below the pre-pandemic level.

FTSE 100 is down -0.12%, GBPUSD is down -0.15%.
