UK Unemployment Falls by 0.2% in Dec-Feb Quarter, Job Vacancies Hits a Record

(ONS) The UK unemployment rate from December 2021 to February 2022 quarter declined by 0.2% to 3.8%.

The employment rate, nonetheless, was largely unchanged at 75.5%, below a pre-pandemic level. Full-time employees rose, with the increase offset by a fall in part-time workers.

The economic inactivity rate rose by 0.2% to 21.4% in December 2021 to February 202 quarter.

The number of job vacancies in the UK reached a record 1.288 million in the January to March 2022 period, while the vacancies over the quarter rose by 50,200.

Payrolled employees for March 2022 rose by a marginal rate of 35,000 to hit a record 29.6 million.

The total pay increased by 5.4% during December 2021 to February 2022 quarter, with inflation-adjusted earnings rising by 0.4%.
