UK Retail Sales Rise by 0.8% in October as Online Transactions Fall

(ONS) The volume of retail sales in the UK in October rose by 0.8% from September, marking the first increase after several months of declines.

Non-food stores posted a 4.2% increase in sales in October and was the only main retail sector to record a gain.

Automotive fuel sales volumes declined by 6.4% in October, with the volume remaining 5.0% below the pre-pandemic levels. 

Sales in food stores declined by 0.3%, with the volumes 3.4% above the levels of February 2020.

Online retail sales were down to 27.3% in October, the lowest since March 2020, but above the February 2020 level of 19.7%.

FTSE 100 is up +0.42%, GBPUSD is down -0.32%.
