UK Car Hits 60-Year Low, as Output Volume Plunges by 37.6%

(SMMT) The volume of cars manufactured in the UK fell by an annual rate of 37.6% in July this year to a low of 53,438.

The output was the lowest since 1956, largely driven by semiconductor chip shortages and Covid-19 which forced staff to isolate.

Year-to-date total car output was 552,361, an increase of 18.3% from the YTD-20.

July 2021 exports were 45,205, down 37.4% year over year.

Domestic car consumption was 8,2333 in July, down 38.7% year over year.

Year-to-date exports rose by 21.0%, compared to the same period last year. YTD home consumption was up 6% from the comparable period of last year.
