Ride-hailing Uber and Lyft have agreed with White House to offer free rides to Covid vaccination sites up to July 4, according to the Wall Street Journal. The partnership is part of the Biden administration’s aim to vaccinate 70% of the U.S adults by at least one dose by July 4.
White House will give data of about 800,000 vaccination centers to Uber and Lyft to facilitate the transportation.
Uber and Lyft will promote the rides through their apps and the feature will start in the next two weeks up to July 4.
Washington move comes amid a fall in vaccinations, forcing a shift of mandate to states in inoculation efforts.
Biden administration will also fund states to enhance the vaccination efforts.
Ride-sharing companies also recently partnered with groups, including pharmacies to offer reduced or free transportation in vulnerable communities.
Uber and Lyft stocks are currently gaining. UBER: NYSE is up 0.17% on premarket, LYFT: NASDAQ is up 0.37% on premarket.
