Tesla’s China-made Model Y was the third best-selling electric car in February at 4,630 vehicles, reports CNBC. The mid-size SUV was the ninth-best seller among new energy vehicles, including electric cars.
On New Year’s Day, Tesla said its China-made Model Y would begin deliveries at a price that Chinese media said was 30% cheaper than previously announced.
Tesla’s Model Y was popular despite car sales falling during the week-long Lunar New Year holiday.
Passenger car sales declined by 45.5% in February from January across China.
For the first two months of the year, nearly 3.34 million passenger cars were sold in China, with new energy vehicles accounting for 7.5%.
Tesla’s Model 3 sedan, the best-selling electric car in China last year, came second in February and the first two months of the year.
Tesla stock is currently gaining. TSLA: NASDAQ is up 4.41% on the premarket.
