Target Corp. announced on Wednesday its plans to roll out the highly successful “Drive Up with Starbucks” service across the entire country. This expansion comes after a year-long pilot program that garnered positive feedback and customer satisfaction.
The retail giant has confirmed that the chainwide implementation of this service, which allows customers to include a Starbucks item in their Drive Up orders and have it brought directly to their cars at no additional cost, will commence this summer. By October, it will be available in over 1,700 stores that house both Starbucks Cafés and Drive Up services.
Chief Stores Officer Mark Schindele expressed Target’s commitment to meeting customers’ needs, stating, “Our guests have consistently shared their enthusiasm for Drive Up, emphasizing its convenience in their daily lives, particularly when they are pressed for time. We have carefully listened to their feedback, and they have overwhelmingly called for Drive Up with Starbucks to enhance every Target visit with even more ease and pleasure.”
In response to this announcement, Target’s shares experienced a slight decline of 0.1% in morning trading, while coffee giant Starbucks Corp. saw a 0.4% decrease. Simultaneously, the S&P 500 index dropped 0.6%.
Target has provided a breakdown of how the process will work. When a customer notifies the store that they are en route to collect their Drive Up order, they will receive a prompt inviting them to add items from the Starbucks menu to their purchase.
The company initially introduced this service as a pilot program in February 2022, planning for select locations to implement it in the following fall. Target’s customers quickly embraced the opportunity to include Starbucks menu items in their Drive Up orders, making it the most sought-after feature after the pilot program’s launch.
With its rollout on the horizon, Target aims to make every drive to their stores a more convenient and enjoyable experience for their valued customers.
