SpaceX has opened preorders for its Starlink satellite internet service to prospective users in the U.S, Canada, and U.K for $99, according to CNBC. The orders may take six months or more to fulfill depending on the user’s location and are “fully refundable.”
- SpaceX initiated a public beta program of Starlink in October, with service priced at $99 a month, in addition to a $499 upfront cost to order Starlink kit, plus shipping.
- Starlink is an ambitious project by SpaceX to build an interconnected internet network with thousands of satellites to deliver high-speed internet to consumers worldwide.
- SpaceX plans to deploy 4,425 satellites in orbit by 2024 and has already been approved by the Federal Communications Commission to launch 11,943 satellites.
- SpaceX CEO Elon Musk plans to spin off Starlink and take it public through an initial public offering.
SpaceX has launched more than 1,000 Starlink satellites so far and has over 10,000 users in the U.S and abroad.
