Sasol Ltd. plans to build a charging station in South Africa to test the viability of fuel cell heavy-duty vehicles, according to Bloomberg. The company will team up with Toyota Motor Corp. to install hydrogen refueling infrastructure along the Johannesburg and port of Durban N3 highway.
Sasol plans to use a prototype truck that is being built in Japan in the pilot phase of the project.
The partnership with Toyota includes other partners over time and aims to build a sustainable end-to-end infrastructure for hydrogen mobility.
The joint venture would help scale up investment in critical infrastructure such as charging stations and the fuel itself.
Sasol and Toyota stocks are currently declining, SOL: JSE is down 0.21%, 7203: TYO is down 0.26%.
