Saifuddin vows justice over school crime cases

TANJUNG MALIM: Police have pledged a transparent and professional investigation into recent criminal incidents in school premises, says the Home Minister.

Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the culprits would be brought to justice in accordance with the law.

He said public confidence, mainly that of parents, needed to be strengthened.

“In the aspect of school safety, parents have the right to focus on it because their children are sent to school.

“We must strengthen the confidence of the people, including parents, if it is related to a crime incident at school.

“We will bring the perpetrators to justice using existing laws,” he said at the handing-over ceremony of the Mualim district headquarters construction project here yesterday, Bernama reported.

Saifuddin Nasution said besides the Child Act, police would also conduct investigations using the Penal Code, assuring that there would be no compromise on any crime incident at school no matter who the perpetrator was.

He, however, said the burden should not be placed solely on the shoulders of the police.

“It has to involve the school, community and opinion leaders. We need everyone’s cooperation in this aspect of security,” he added.
