RLX to Make Age Verification Mandatory in Branded Stores

(PR Newswire) The age verification process will be compulsory across RELX-branded stores in China after RLX Technology announced an upgrade of its minor protection system.

The upgraded Sunflower System 3.0 combines big data risk management and artificial intelligence. It provides an option to use an ID card to complete the verification for the elderly and those with disabilities.

The new system will be installed in the in-store point-of-sale machine, prompting customers to verify their ID, name, and face before making purchases.

The system will be installed in all RELX-branded stores in China by the 1st of October. RLX also seeks to include other industry players in its system in the future.

Head of RLX’s Data Technology Zhang Di has asked for users’ cooperation even as he expects some inconvenience from the verification process.

RLX: NYSE is down -3.33% on premarket.
