(ADP National Employment) US private-sector jobs fell by 301,000 in January as the effects of the Omicron slowed down activity.

Job declines were posted in companies of all sizes, with small businesses shedding the most at 144,000.

Large businesses’ jobs fell by 98,000, while medium businesses’ payrolls fell by 59,000.

By sector, service-providing businesses posted 274,000 declines in jobs, while goods-producing business jobs fell by 27,000. Franchise employment improved by 1,600.

Job declines mark the largest since December 2020, although ADP chief economist Nela Richardson says the impacts of the Omicron are temporary.
