(ADP National Employment) US private-sector employment rose by 374,000 in August from July, a lower gain compared to an expected increase of 600,000.
Medium businesses added the most jobs at 149,000.
Large businesses contributed to 138,000 jobs, while small businesses had the fewest share of job gains at 86,000.
By sector, the bulk of jobs in the private sector came from service-providing entities at 329,000.
Franchise employment came at 52,300, while goods-producing firms created 45,000 jobs.
Analysts link the slow rate of job gains to the Delta variant, with the NFP numbers on Friday expected to reveal the further direction of the labor market recovery.
