(CoinDesk) Stripe is onboarding Ethereum scaling platform Polygon to power its crypto payments using stablecoin USDC.
Stripe says the initial crypto payouts will be made using USDC stablecoins native to Polygon and Polygon-compatible wallets.
Twitter will be the first company to test the new feature by allowing payment of earnings to content creators using crypto.
Stripe expects to support additional payout currencies in future, in a move that marks its significant push into digital assets since abandoning Bitcoin four years ago.
Stripe says although the “store of value” element of crypto gets the most attention, it is thrilled by the prospect of open access on a global scale.
