Polkadot Introduces a Cross-Chain Messaging System for the First Time

(The Block) Polkadot users will be able to natively move tokens across parachains, thanks to a newly unveiled cross-chain messaging system dubbed XCM.

The new messaging system is expected to enable the movement of data, in addition to the crypto assets across the Polkadot ecosystem.

Shawn Tabrizi, lead developer at Polkadot, said that with the Cross-Consensus Messaging system, Polkadot has achieved its objective of becoming a fully interoperable multi-chain ecosystem.

Hoon Kim, the chief technical officer at Polkadot’s smart contract service Astar, said that with XCM, the ecosystem has a reliable and stable inter-chain messaging channel. He says the channel is superior to other fragmented bridges.

Polkadot ran its initial parachains in December 2021, which have remained fragmented to date. The launch of XCM is expected to make it easy for blockchains to move tokens across parachains.
