PayPal Starts Crypto Services in the UK after Weeks of Speculation

(PayPal) PayPal users in the UK can now buy, hold, and sell cryptocurrencies through the digital wallet.

PayPal cites the “digitization of money,” especially during the Covid pandemic as key drivers of its continued expansion in the digital space. 

Entry into the UK marks PayPal’s first expansion into crypto services, outside the US. The payment giant launched the service in the US in November 2020.

PayPal’s announcement ends ongoing speculation, since last month, over entry into the UK amid the country’s continued crackdown on crypto exchanges.

PayPal has a higher penetration in the UK, compared to other European countries, with over 2 million monthly active users.

 PYPL: NASDAQ is up +0.74% on premarket.
