Almost 250,000 addresses were reportedly unable to receive the new OP governance token airdrop by the Ethereum layer-2 scaling solution Optimism.
Optimism confirmed the turbulence, saying that the mainnet experienced degraded performance for almost three and half hours. The Optimism team rushed to boost capacity on the network.
The team behind Optimism took to Twitter to calm users while also stating that they have learned lessons that would be crucial to the second round. The team said they would give a report next week of what went down.
Martin Köppelmann, the co-founder of Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible blockchain Gnosis, lauded Optimism as one of the “leading” projects that will solve Ethereum’s scaling issues. He still acknowledged that the teething issues faced in the airdrop show that “scaling is hard.”
