(NIU) NIU Technologies announced 163,659 units of electric vehicles sold in the first quarter of 2022, up 9.4% from the prior year.
NIU said that the number of units the company sold in the Chinese market was 148,987 in the first quarter, representing an increase of 3.0% from the prior year. International sales were 15,672, an increase of 193.7% from the prior year.
The EV maker said that the sales units in China fluctuated due to Covid-19 from mid-February. The company said that its combined sales in January and February in the country grew 91.6% from the prior year.
The company reported a strong global demand for kick-scooters since its launch in the second half of last year. As of March 31, 2022, the EV maker said the cumulative sales of kick-scooters and e-motorcycles/e-mopeds hit 9,833 units and 4,839 units, respectively.
