NFT Works by Pak Fetches $17 Million at Sotheby’s

Several digital artworks by enigmatic artist Pak sold for more than $17 million during a three-day sale that ended on Wednesday, according to The Wall Street Journal. The sale was conducted by the digital platform Nifty Gateway and auction house Sotheby’s.

Sotheby’s sale was much below the $69 million paid at Christie’s last month for a single NFT by Mike Winkelmann, popularly known as Beeple.

The broad bidding of Pak’s “The Fungible Collection” series is a sign that cryptocurrency collectors are seeking out complex, wryly conceptual NFTs with lengthy records online.

In Sotheby’s sale, top prices were paid for Pak works that showcased a level of market savvy and game-like complexity that is impossible with a canvas or sculpture in real life.

Pak’s auction is likely to elevate the artist’s profile, known in digital design circles for creating sleek, wryly conceptual artworks that explore ideas about value and ownership.

Pak maintains a cryptic persona and it remains unclear if the artist represents an individual or a group of designers.
