MicroStrategy Adds More than 5,000 Bitcoins to its Holdings as CEO Blasts Gold

(MicroStrategy) The world’s leading bitcoin holder MicroStrategy bought another 5,050 for about $242.9 million at an average price of $48,099 per BTC. 

The new purchase means that MicroStrategy’s total holdings of Bitcoin stands at 114,042 BTCs, equivalent to a value of about $3.16 billion.

About 8,957 Bitcoins have been acquired in the third quarter of this year, at an estimated average price of about $46,875 per BTC.

CEO Michael Saylor says the company avoided a “multi-billion-dollar mistake” by investing in the world’s largest cryptocurrency instead of gold.

MicroStrategy purchased its first Bitcoins on August 11, last year and plans to add more. The company’s shares have risen by more than 350% year to date. 

MSTR: NASDAQ is up +1.86% on premarket, BTCUSD is up +0.84%.
