(Twitter) Meta is making further inroads into crypto, with five trademark applications for Meta Pay, a digital assets trading and payment platform.
The trademarks were filed on May 13 and mentioned the intention to make inroads into digital, crypto, and virtual currencies, financial, and currency trading.
The trademark also pointed to offerings of virtual currency services and blockchain software. Meta Pay could also allow lending of digital assets, as well as investment services.
The move happens after Meta acquired MetaPay.com domain name in a $60 million deal late last year. The filing is the latest crypto-related hint by Meta, after earlier in the month, announcing plans to test NFTs on Instagram.
Meta had previously filed eight trademark applications for the company’s logo, announcing its move into the digital economy.
The filing happens amid the failure of Meta’s stablecoin, Diem, which faced a lot of regulatory scrutiny. The social media giant announced a loss of almost $3 billion from Reality Labs in the first quarter.
