Medtronic and Apollo Hospitals Announces Robotic-Assisted Surgery Breakthrough

(Medtronic) Medtronic Plc. and Apollo Hospitals Group performed the first clinical procedure in Asia-Pacific using the Hugo™ robotic-assisted surgery (RAS) system.

The robotic prostatectomy was done at Apollo Hospitals in Chennai India on September 17 by Dr. N Ragavan.

Dr. Ragavan says he feels confident in bringing the benefits of minimally invasive surgical operation to more patients using the Hugo RAS system. He is also optimistic about bringing down the open procedures from the current 70% in India.

Robotic-assisted surgery is expected to minimize surgical-related complications, including scars, and reduce hospital stays. The system is commercially available in specific jurisdictions.
