(Twitter) Payments giant Mastercard International has filed 15 trademarks as it enters the booming metaverse and NFT space.
The patents, filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office, cover a range of crypto, virtual, and financial products and services.
Mastercard’s trademark covers an NFT backed multimedia, card and payment processing in the metaverse, and a marketplace for digital goods.
The company will register its “Circles” logo and the “Priceless” slogan.
Trademark lawyer Michael Kondoudis says the filings are Mastercard’s next logical step to protect its brand as it enters the world of virtual realities.
Kondoudis says Mastercard recognizes the potential of the metaverse, with the latest filing a “safe bet” in becoming a major player in the space.
Last month, another payment giant, American Express filed for metaverse-related patents.
