Malaysia’s Communications Authority Calls for a Legal Tender Status of Crypto

(Harian Metro) Malaysia’s Communication Ministry has given a proposal to the government to adopt digital assets such as Bitcoin as a legal tender.

Communications deputy minister Zahidi Zainul Abidin asked the government to legalize crypto, which he says will encourage youth participation.

Zhidi said that the communications ministry has been exploring ways that young people can participate in the crypto industry. He says the decision on the request rests on the country’s central bank and the securities regulator.

The views by the communications chief come after, in early March, the country’s finance minister said that cryptocurrencies are illegal in Malaysia since they do not possess the universal features of money.

BTCUSD is up +0.06%, ETHUSD is up +0.96%.
