Jobless Claims Match Estimates after Falling by 12,000

(Department of Labor) US jobless claims fell by 12,000 for the week that ended August 7 to hit an expected level of 375,000.

Seasonally adjusted initial claims

On a 4-week moving average, jobless claims rose by 1,750 to 396,250.

Continuing claims declined by 114,000 to 2.866 million. The claims were the lowest since March 14, 2020.

Jobless claims under state programs were 320,517, down by 1.6% from the previous week. The drop in claims beats an expected 2.1% gain.

Jobless claims rose the highest in Indiana, Georgia, Rhode Island, Alabama, and Illinois. The largest falls in jobless claims were in Pennsylvania, Texas, Michigan, Tennessee, and Puerto Rico.
