Jobless Claims Hit New Pandemic Lows After a Decline by 14,000

(Department of Labor) Jobless claims fell by 14,000 in the week that ended October 30 to a new-pandemic low of 269,000.

The jobless claims are now closer to the March 14, 2020 levels when it was 256,000. The jobless claims in the previous week were revised up by 2,000 to 283,000.

On a four-week moving average, jobless claims edged lower by 15,000 to 284,750. The claims were the lowest since March 14, 2020.

Continuing claims fell by 134,000 to 2.105 million. On a four-week average, continuing claims fell by 155,500 to 2.357 million.

Initial claims under state programs fell by 7,114 or 2.9% to 240,216. The decline was higher than expected fall of 6,872 or 2.8%.

Initial claims rose the highest in the District of Columbia, Kentucky, Missouri, Florida, and Oklahoma. The states of California, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee posted the largest declines in initial claims.
