Intel Readies Its “Bonanza Mine” Chip in February as It Eyes Crypto Mining

(BeinCrypto) Tech giant Intel is set to unveil a new chip, the “Bonanza Mine” processor, when the International Solid-State Circuits Conference kicks off on February 20.

The new chip, which has been dubbed the “ultra-low-voltage energy-efficient Bitcoin mining ASIC,” comes when the tech giant is making forays into crypto mining dominated by giants such as Bitman.

The development comes less than a month after Intel’s graphics processor head Raja Koduri said that the company was developing specialized crypto mining technologies and hardware. Koduri says the new chip is different from conventional graphics processors.

Intel is now seen to capitalize on the opportunities in crypto mining, with gamers suffering at the back of a global low supply of graphics cards in the wake of the pandemic.

Intel, which is showing a lot of interest in crypto mining, revealed a $780,000 stake in Coinbase last year and aims to release its first gaming graphics cards called the Intel Arc Alchemist this year.

INTC: NASDAQ closed down -1.69% on Tuesday.
