(Eurostat) Annual inflation in the EU rose at a faster rate of 2.5% in July 2021, the gain from 2.2% posted in June. The Euro area’s annual inflation increased by 2.2% in July, from 1.9% in June.
July’s increase in inflation in the EU and euro area was higher than the comparable month of 2020, when it rose by 0.9% and 0.4%, respectively.
The highest contribution to the annual inflation in the euro area was energy, which rose by 1.34%, food, alcohol, and tobacco which increased by 0.35%. Services saw a 0.31% increase while non-energy industrial goods increased by 0.17%.
The highest increases in annual inflation were Estonia at 4.9%, Poland and Hungary, which both recorded a 4.7% uptick in prices.
Malta, Greece, and Italy recorded the lowest annual inflation rates at 0.3%, 0.7%, and 1.0% respectively.
