Impact of Hurricane Idalia on CSX Rail Service

While Hurricane Idalia continues to make its way through the southeastern U.S., CSX, the railroad shipper, has cautioned its customers about the possible disruption in service in the region. Some locations have already experienced suspended service due to the storm.

CSX has temporarily halted operations along the CSX I-95 route, which passes through Georgia and South Carolina, as they assess any potential storm-related damages. The Waycross, Ga. to Thomasville, Ga./Dothan, Ala. Bow line is currently on hold but is expected to resume shortly.

In Florida, the CSX Manchester/Fitzgerald subdivision, stretching from Jacksonville to Mid-Georgia, was shut down for a total of 16 hours. However, operations were swiftly resumed by late Wednesday. While the rail yard in Waycross, Fla. experienced a pause in hump production on one of its five humps due to the storm passing over it, operations have now resumed.

CSX has issued a warning that as the storm continues its journey across the Southeast, bringing strong winds and potential flooding to parts of Georgia and the Carolinas after impacting Florida, additional disruptions to rail operations may occur.
