Google Moves to an In-House CPU Development for PCs and Tablets

(Nikkei Asia) Tech giant Google is making its own central processors for laptops and tablets as it shifts to in-house development to become competitive. The move by Google is part of its plan to roll out the CPUs for laptops and tablets, running on its Chrome operating system in 2023.

The internet giant is also seeking to build mobile processors for the Pixel smartphones and related devices. The company will, for the first time, use in-house processor chips in its upcoming Pixel 6 series.

Google’s move reflects those of Apple, which said last year, that it would replace Intel CPUs with in-house offerings for laptops and Mac computers.

Google sees massive potential in the global market since it serves as the sole smartphone maker in the US using the Android operating system to build handsets.

GOOGL: NASDAQ is up +0.071% on premarket.
